Dr. Nupur Pavan Bang is Associate Director at the Thomas Schmidheiny Centre for Family
Enterprise, Indian School of Business (ISB). She specializes in family business and finance and has
17 years of experience as an academic. She has taught courses in family business, finance,
accounting and insurance at institutes like the IIM Lucknow, IIM Ranchi, TAPMI and the
Whitman School of Management, Syracuse University.
Nupur is an astute observer of “families” in family businesses and has interacted with several of
them to understand their challenges and issues. She is a frequent speaker at several industry
forums on issues related to family governance, role of a family office and the role of women in
family businesses. Her current area of interest and research is performance of Family
Businesses. Nupur has authored several research papers, case studies, white papers and more
than 200 articles for international and Indian publications.
Previously, Nupur has worked as the Head of Analytics at the Insurance Information Bureau of
India (IIB), Hyderabad (an initiative of the Insurance regulator, IRDAI), an Associate Professor at
IBS Hyderabad and as an Auditor in Singapore. She is a Post-Doc Fellow from ISB, holds a PhD in
finance and is a Fellow of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) of UK.
